Realising that the art exhibition by one of your favourite artists, which you were so going to get round to going to, is due to finish in a few days? Bummer. Realising that you aren't busy on Saturday and the train to Manchester isn't too long a journey? Huzzah! If you are able to get to Manchester and fancy some odd, but somehow very compelling art, then David Shrigley is one of those Marmite artists where some people say he isn't an artist at all, but a cartoonist, or that it's all modern rubbish, or puerile. But other people find it a stripped back style with plenty of messages to convey about society, us as beings and about our emotions and interactions with the world. It's free, so if nothing else, you can get ace coffee and cake at the Cornerhouse while you wonder who on earth would travel for hours to see that mess upstairs..... | (This is a good start to my sort of resolution to act more often on my thoughts of "oh, that looks interesting, I'd like to see that" OK, I'm making it there the day before the exhibition closes, but at least I'm seeing it!) |
