One child has visited before and knows where a real dead skeleton is.
All other exhibits in the museum can wait.
As can the teacher.

What killed off the dinosaurs?

Having seen this image unaccredited, my first thought was "some sort of artist's installation at a museum, which has made use of an existing statue."

Nope. Apparently it's a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton which Google have at their HQ, and slowly, bit by bit, the flamingos have appeared.
No one knows why.

I would much rather it be at a museum, so the staff can confuse kids.
"Yup, that's what wiped out the dinosaurs. Flamingos only eat shrimp now because they killed all the larger prey and had to adapt."

"Independence Seaport Museum's boat shop, Workshop on the Water, is dedicated to the skills and traditions of wooden boat building and sailing in the Delaware Valley and the New Jersey shore"
And they know how to apply humour to get people to do what the signs tell them to!

Art for Commentary's Sake

A mystery artist has been leaving intricate paper-cut sculptures around Scotland for a few years , and has been remotely interviewed by the beeb.

Not only is her work amazing in itself, the reasons behind what she creates, and why she abandons the pieces to be found, are admirable.
"It's no secret that I would like everyone to have access to books, art, artefacts and the buildings that house them. Not just those with the money for a ticket."

When this image appeared on my tumblr feed thanks to medieval.tumblr.com there was only one thought which came to mind, so here's my altered version of the medieval manuscript.

What can I say, it's been a rum old couple of weeks!

Enjoy a trip around the UK's Anglican cathedrals. An unconventional one.

"Hopefully this blog will help to promote the outstanding cathedrals we have in this country, many of which are currently suffering financially and need thousands of pounds a day just to keep their doors open. The thought of cathedrals such as Ely, Lincoln and Wells closing almost brings tears to the eyes."
The blog in question?
Cathedral-Licking Diary
Of course...

If you want a good guide to the Anglican cathedrals of the UK, then this is one which comes, unusually, with occasional tasting notes. After Lawrence Edmonds entered a bet with a mate that he couldn't lick every Anglican cathedral in the United Kingdom within 5 years, he set out to do it. The end result is a fantastically well written travel blog which is a delight to read.

You get facts about the importance of certain cathedrals and their history (Lady Godiva is buried at Coventry), architectural comments (Down Cathedral is incredibly spiky) recommendations (Liverpool is a must for all cathedral perverts) and amusing asides about the adventures he got up to (risking railway fines, young hooligans and confused tourists)

This blog has been bookmarked on my lunchtime list of light reads for a while, and I heartily suggest it for fans of cathedrals, history, travel or just mild humour in a Great British style.

Dip in and out, or start as his challenge was accepted, either way, you'll root for Lawrence all the way and inevitably add more places to your 'must-see' list.

One of our roughly six months old, shiny, lovely feature display cabinets, has been purposely scratched all over one of the clear perspex panels. Just big whirling loops of scratched random mess. All over the front panel. Not even graffiti or a tag, just swirls which go high enough that at least a teenager must have purposely done it.

Due to the cabinet construction, that means replacing the entire vitrine.
I now have a date with a packet of Foxe's Ginger Crunch Creams.

As part of a temporary exhibition there were very clever manikins set up with projectors, so that the blank face became a talking projection of an actor. It scared countless adults witless (to the howling delight of their less shocked friends) and left some children too traumatized to see the full exhibition.

So, I decided to try something new, with an older comic, just to see if I could. What do folks think?
